Longtime Oak Park floral shop Carriage Flowers has moved its operation to LaGrange Park, and word on the street is the storefront at 124 N. Marion St. will be replaced with a barbecue restaurant.
Carriage Flowers owner Liz Newell said in a telephone interview that the business was sold to Phillip’s Flowers and has relocated. Newell said the name and phone number will remain and longtime customers can still order from Carriage online.
“The only thing that is changing is the location,” Newell said, noting that about 70 percent of her customers place their orders online. “Not very many florists are being acquired these days because the market is so tough; we are one of the survivors.”
Newell said she is retiring from the flower business, but her daughter, Christine Newell, will continue running the business.
