Ellie Alldredge-Bell educated Oak Park students for 33 years, spanning her longtime career at Holmes, Hatch and Lincoln schools. Now she’s turned her longtime passion for teaching and knack for writing into a new profession as an author.

At 1 p.m. this Saturday, she’ll offer residents a chance to see her new work at the Magic Tree Bookstore, 141 N. Oak Park Ave. She’ll be reading and signing her first published children’s book, Sitting on a Zinnia and Other Sweet Dreams. The colorful story tells the tale of a young girl as she travels through a series of dreams.

Alldredge-Bell, who now lives in Wisconsin but still has a home in Oak Park, created the book with former Oak Parker Stacey Williams-Ng, the illustrator. They were introduced by the publisher and the match was perfect, Alldredge-Bell said.
