Don't defund our police

There should not be any defunding of the Police Department. If funds are needed for social services, then the whole budget needs to be looked at or increased to fund the social services. No funds should be taken away from our police. We expect to remain as safe as is possible here in Oak Park. Most crime seems to be from people who do not live here!

Great article front page of the Saturday 27 September Chicago Tribune newspaper about the back tracking efforts of The Minneapolis City Council to disband their police department. There is a statement the if the city changes the name of the police department they will have technically abolished the police department. Great read.

Figure out who the bad apples are before you give them a gun! I am not sure you can identify officers who lose control because of an adrenaline rush, None of us know til it happens, but we need to try. When an officer is plagued with a excess of complaints, time to evaluate and a couple serious ones should end his/her career!

Punish individual cops who do wrong. Do NOT punish the entire department.

We should look to Minneapolis to see what "De fund" does! After all of this feel good, police are bad nonsense Residents of Minneapolis are screaming for police protection. they are reaping what they have sown! We all should learn from others mistakes, but then Oak Park knows better - I guess!
