Denying the Wright Trust was the right decision

I have lived in Oak Park for over half a century and raised my family in the village.

Listening to the testimony of members of the board of the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust at the Historic Preservation Commission's Aug. 27 public hearing as they argued in favor of demolishing the Italianate home at 925 Chicago Ave. and modifying Anna's cottage at 931 Chicago Ave., in violation of Oak Park's Historic Preservation ordinance, was to me a classic example of destroying something they say they are trying to improve.

I found the commission's public hearing to be the finest example of democracy in action. The chairman and commission members listened carefully to all testimony — pro and con.

In the end, they voted unanimously to deny the Trust's request. I applaud the commission for holding a very fair and deliberative meeting.

I also agree with their findings.
