As part of following the Obama Foundation pledge to review police use-of-force policies, the village of Oak Park has tentatively scheduled two community police listening sessions. Residents will have the opportunity to share their experiences with the Oak Park Police Department and its officers. The police department will not actively participate in the sessions.

"The purpose is to gather testimonials," said Oak Park spokesman David Powers.

The tentative meeting dates are 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 5 and 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 6. Village staff will distribute information on how to sign up to speak later this week, according to Powers.

"It is important to note that these sessions are not for questions or group discussion," said Powers.

Powers directed only those who wish to speak to sign up. Those who do not want to speak but would like to share can email their testimonials to an as yet undetermined address.

The village will live stream the sessions t www.oak-park.us/boardtv. The sessions will also air live on Comcast channel 6 and AT&T U-verse channel 99.

According to Powers, village staff are still working out the details, but expect more information soon regarding the sessions.

"We will issue a news release, post to our Facebook and Twitter pages and distribute via our email list service," said Powers. "The news release will be posted on the village website and the dates/times posted to the website calendar."
