What does the Journal mean to Oak Park?

  • The forum for public debate provided by Wednesday Journal has been both open and constant and a necessary component of Oak Park open government.
  • The Journal has never wavered in fulfilling its obligations to the community and to its profession as a living, breathing member of the Fifth Estate.
  • They have provided a voice when one was needed. They have not been afraid to challenge our local institutions when necessary and seek accountability from them.
  • They have provided this village with an invaluable and reliable 40-year historical record of our ongoing struggle, as a community, to live up to the good government and open community ideals we are constantly aspiring to achieve.
  • Their compass has been consistently forthright and true, whether they are drilling down on an issue or providing a broader perspective on something that forces us to think.
  • In all of these things, Wednesday Journal has been an indispensable cornerstone for this village.

Former Oak Park village attorney

Bill I've lived in Oak Park for 37 years ... since 1983. I have never lived in Orland Park. Where do you get that garbage? Fake news?

William Dwyer Jr.

Btw, Bruce. When did you move from Orland Park?

Bruce Kline

Yes, Bill, by all means. Welcome back.

I'm still in awe by the fact that William said the words "hominem" and "drivel".

Well, Bruce, I'm currently in the process of moving back to north Oak Park after having my travel wings clipped. Maybe I'll see you around and you can elaborate on your recent critique of my character. If you care to.

Well Bill, unlike you and Mr. Haley I actually live, in Oak Park... and have the exorbitant property tax bill to prove it.

Ohh, Bruce. Such name calling. You must be a real Berwyn tough guy. I should be careful not to annoy you.

Oh by the way little Jr. what do they owe now going forward as a non profit? That is exactly the point you bloviating gasbag.

Hey Billy Jr. I have a recommendation what YOU can do with your sense of pompous superiority. You can ask your gastroenterologist if - during your colonoscopy (which you clearly need) - he can possibly remove your head from your rectum. This might relieve your most annoying symptom once and for all: bloviating gasbaggery. Give it a shot. You have nothing to lose except your hot air.

What tiresome drivel from you two. One day you'll make the mental effort to present a non-ad hominem argument and surprise everybody. The fact is that In just the four years between 2015-2018, Wednesday Journal Inc. paid $298,340 in property taxes. They owe $55,630 for 2019. That's an average of more than $70,000 annually.

Tom. Or become a non profit and pay no properrty taxes but at the same time advocate for every tax increase that comes down the pike.

If we follow the compass, I guess we all need to move away to Berwyn like the editor. Once there, enjoying the lower taxes, we can tell everyone in Oak Park how they need to live their lives.
