Known for her baking, she taught many neighborhood children about baking cookies, cakes and pies. The "classes" were held in her kitchen where she was the queen of pie crusts. A member of First United Methodist Church, she organized bake sales and the "Birthday Bash," a monthly meal at a local restaurant celebrating each month's birthdays. Her sparkle was infectious.
At Rotary, she write their newsletters as well as the "MMN — Mom's Monthly Newsletter," which included jokes and kept the family connected. For years she had college-age foreign students living in her Oak Park home while they took English classes, providing warm hospitality and support. She loved traveling with her husband on cruises and exploring Greece, Alaska, the Bahamas, Italy, Ireland, and Paris with friends, daughters, and grandchildren. She was the "Queen of Fun."
The week before she died, she wrote, "I've had a great life because of Dad and all my family. Thank you, one and all!"
