Last week we extolled the upturn of Lake Street from Austin to Ridgeland. We used the happy opening of One Lake Brewery at Lake and Austin as our hook. Now just a few days later, we're covering what are admittedly preliminary discussions between the same property owner who nurtured One Lake and a developer eyeing a portion of his shuttered Minit Car Wash just to the west.
Normally we wouldn't have much to say about a project this early in its formation. But how do you resist the concept of an entity selling upscale autos — Porsches are pictured — in a location that also has an auto-fueled art gallery and an enthusiasts event space? Seems wonderfully weird.
We'll wait semi-patiently while the developer, Quantum Motors, continues talks with the village government and Greg Sorg, the property owner. If this has legs, Oak Park might need to create a new zoning classification.
Meanwhile, the east end of Lake Street just gets more interesting.
