An Oak Park man died early Tuesday morning after he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 69-year-old Oak Park woman on Ridgeland Avenue just north of Garfield Street at about 9 p.m. on June 10, police have reported.

The Cook County Medical Examiner identified the victim as 55-year-old Karl Oxnevad of the 800 block of Highland Avenue. He died at 2:04 a.m. at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood where he was transported by paramedics, according to the medical examiner's report.

The vehicle was southbound on Ridgeland Avenue, about halfway across the I-290 bridge, when, Oak Park police stated, the driver said someone ran into the path of the vehicle.

Police cited the driver for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact Oak Park police at 708-386-3800, by contacting the anonymous tip line at 708-434-1636 or by visiting www.oak-park.us/crimetip.

This story has been changed to correct the spelling of the victim's last name.
