Fenwick baseball
The Fenwick baseball team endured three tough losses by a run during a busy week. Despite close setbacks to De La Salle, St. Rita and Bishop McNamara, the Friars displayed live bats with 16 hits in a 14-0 rout of Hales. Paul O’Toole had a triple, double and knocked in two runs, while Jake Kinsella fanned 11 to earn the victory.
Gino Cavalieri, O’Toole and Justin Rodriguez all went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the Friars’ 7-5 win over Bishop McNamara. The Friars also cruised past St. Francis de Sales 9-2.
OPRF softball
Emma Baldwin scattered eight hits and struck out five in the Huskies’ 3-2 victory over Resurrection. Jenna Rouse (3-for-3) had the game-winning hit. Baldwin went 2-for-3 and scored a run, while Mariah Weinand added an RBI.
Last Wednesday, the Huskies outslugged Hinsdale Central 14-10 as Emily Richardson battled in the circle to pick up the win. Weinand was 3-for-6 with four RBI, Jenna Rouse finished 3-for-3 and scored twice, and Samantha Davidson chipped in two hits and two RBI.
Other games included a 5-0 shutout of Glenbard West and a 5-4 loss to St. Ignatius.
OPRF opened last week with a 1-0 win against Lyons Township as Baldwin tossed a complete game two-hitter with nine strikeouts.
Fenwick softball
The Friars dropped a doubleheader to Bishop McNamara 10-0 and 11-6 in East Suburban Conference Catholic action Saturday. In Game 2, Jenna Cairo, Jess Mrozek and Val Perrelli each went 2-for-4 for Fenwick (12-11, 5-8 ESCC).
Fenwick fell to St. Viator 6-4 in another ESCC game. Powered by Mrozek (3-for-4) and Cairo (2-for-3), who both hit home runs, the Friars built a 4-0 lead before the Lions rallied with six runs in the 7th inning for the victory.
In an earlier meeting (4/29), Fenwick routed St. Viator 15-0 as Mrozek (7-3) allowed three hits and struck out eight en route to a complete-game victory. Ashley Parenti (4-for-5) and Cairo (3-for-4) led offensively.
Fenwick girls soccer
The Friars (13-3-4) lost a tough 1-0 decision to Benet on Saturday. Fenwick and Loyola battled to a 0-0 tie (5/2).
Maggie Reilly’s three goals and Nora Madden’s goal plus three assists carried Fenwick to a 7-1 victory vs. Bishop McNamara (5/1).
OPRF girls water polo
OPRF pulled out a 6-5 victory against Marian as Katie Appell tallied three goals and three steals. Samantha Robbins (two goals), Maura Dahl (goal) and goalie Zoe Erickson (four saves) also contributed.
The Huskies (23-6) defeated Morton 14-7 with Appell netting seven goals and four steals. Hannah Legatzke and Robbins had two goals apiece.
Fenwick boys tennis
The Friars’ top doubles teams, No.1 Jack Ryan-Colin Fitzpatrick (who have only lost a total of four games) and No.2 Kyle Johnson-Mike Doherty, both went 3-0 to fuel Fenwick’s runner-up showing at the Fenton Invite.
OPRF Badminton
Ana Spinuzza finished fourth at Saturday’s Willowbrook Sectional to earn a return trip to the state finals at Eastern Illinois this weekend.
Fenwick girls track
The Friars finished fourth at the East Suburban Catholic Conference meet scoring 71 points. The 1,600 (4:08.79) and 3,200 (9:54.17) relay teams both captured first-place honors.
Levin signs with Loyola Marymount
Former OPRF center Gabe Levin signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Loyola Marymount University next season. This year, Levin attended St. Thomas More, a Connecticut prep school, where he played on the Chancellors’ basketball team.
