Trump should take a Civics class

I was shocked by President Trump's statement that U.S. laws are the worst of any country in the world. Many of Mr. Trump's remarks are offensive to me, but he swore to uphold the laws and protect our most remarkable Constitution and Bill of Rights. If he actually read these quick posts of democracy, he would certainly appreciate them.

Ms. Karen Muriello recently wrote a letter to the Wednesday Journal urging the revival of teaching a Civics class in classrooms across the nation. I certainly agree with her. Our president is a prime example of the need.

The U.S. Constitution only fails its purpose when laws are perverted and distorted in use. If followed as intended, it would guide us to live by the Golden Rule. How worthwhile that would be!

@ Karen - so, you judge him by what he says rather than what he has gotten done. Unemployment in the black community at a all time low. Unemployment in the Hispanic community 50 year low. Military got a pay raise. Foreign countries that take our money are not so willing to knife us in the back. Economy is roaring. I try not to listen to President Trump's rhetoric but rather enjoy the results of his effort. We just got over the slickest - smoothest talking huckster who's accomplishments are zero. Tolerating NY brashness is OK with me.

Mr. Simpson makes a point by providing context for the President's remark. However, on numerous occasions in the last two years, Mr. Trump has revealed his ignorance of and disrespect for government processes and procedures. He is willfully ignorant. I am honored to be quoted by Harriet Hausman, one of the leading lights of or community.

As usual Ms Hausman mis- understood or intentionally misquoted the president. The full context of his statement was relative to immigration and that was the subject he was referring to. The nightmare we are experiencing on our southern border is the result of incompetent legislation and a failure to do anything that might give President Trump a few positive points in his effort to stem what is a genuine crisis. Much of the agendas of the loony left candidates for 2020 could not pass junior high government class so a civics class might benefit everyone in congress.
