Daniel Escalona

Daniel William Escalona, 25, of Oak Park, died on April 12, 2019 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago due to complications from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. A graduate of Oak Park and River Forest High School, he received his undergraduate and master’s degrees in Journalism from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. 

Daniel Escalona was the son of Julio Alejandro and Margaret Escalona; the brother of Isabela; grandson of Delia Maldonado Ortiz and the late William and Bernice Boyter; nephew of Janet (E.J.) Talbot, William Boyter, and Robert (Gordana) Boyter; and the cousin of Kevin Boyter, Martina (Juan Carlos) Olivo Torres and Matea Boyter. He also leaves behind family members in Mexico and many dear friends. 

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. until time of service, 11 a.m., on Saturday, April 20 at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, 203 S. Marion St. in Oak Park. 

Interment is private. 

In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (mda.org), Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (parentprojectmd.org), or to The Intercept (intercept.com).
