Supporting Scaman for village president
Opinion: Letters To The Editor
I'm supporting Vicki Scaman for Oak Park village president, and I'm asking for your open mind and willingness to learn more about why she is running, what she stands for, and why she is the right person to move Oak Park forward.
Vicki is a standout among the village president candidates. She has far more relevant professional experience for the position than the other candidates, and she'll show her grace and thoughtful leadership at the board table. Won't that be a wonderful and desperately needed presence? I believe she has the leadership ability required to bring to the board and the community a shared vision for Oak Park. She brings people together around a shared goal. She is a collaborator. She is the right person for this time in Oak Park.
Post-pandemic, isn't that the kind of president Oak Park deserves? A creative thinker and problem-solver, who doesn't raise her voice to make a point, who listens to both hear and understand before thinking about responding, hers is the kind of leadership necessary to support and, in some cases rebuild, that same vitality throughout Oak Park.
Please visit Vicki's website to learn about her: https://votevicki.org/ and her Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/vickiforvillagepresident.
Experienced leadership, commitment to racial equity, support for a sustainable Oak Park, she has a breadth and depth of lifelong contributions to the village. She stands out from the rest: Teacher, nonprofit executive director, community volunteer and advocate, business management experience, village commissioner, village clerk (elected 2017).
Do please ask questions. Vicki likes to respond to citizens and will do so as president. Or, share your top concerns (or joys) about Oak Park.
In the end it really is about you, your ability to have a great quality of life in Oak Park, and how village government serves your needs.
