400 and counting: The life of an Oak Park reporter

Staff Reporter

I've been digging through the archives during the past week on OakPark.com. I've also been transitioning my mindset from baseball to football season (a big sigh of relief since I'm a Cubs fan). Today I noticed I'm about to hit No. 400 for articles on OakPark.com.

Now if that was my batting average, I'd be in a different career (who wouldn't come watch a female baseball player with a .400 average).

Anyway, this got me thinking about the unique opportunity I've had covering a town like Oak Park. During a meeting last week about the comprehensive planning process, the consultant said to village board members: "The norm of what most do is irrelevant to Oak Park."

I've learned just how true that is after nearly a year and a half in my post as the local government reporter for Wednesday Journal. Trustees have joked about "oakparkifying" things and how they are done the "Oak Park way." This town is never short on news; good or bad, I'll let our vocal OakPark.com commenters decide. That makes the late-night budget meetings and early-morning deadlines worth it.

So thanks for the news, Oak Park. I'll work on bringing plenty more your way.
