Here in Oak Park, we're fortunate to have many notable authors, filmmakers, musicians, and other artists as neighbors. There's Elizabeth Berg, Chris Ware, Alex Kotlowitz, Steve James…
But what about our perhaps lesser-known hometown creators? There's Emma Gates, Dan Smolla, Michael Taylor, Chris Tyre...
With its special Oak Park Creates collection, the Oak Park Public Library wants to celebrate the creative among us who may not yet have instant name recognition—and put their works into circulation. Anyone with direct ties to Oak Park can submit materials to be considered for the collection.
"Oak Park Creates is more than a collection," said Eric Pasteur, Media Librarian. "It represents a community of creators who have experiences to share. Hopefully, those experiences will inform, teach, and encourage others to create."
To that end, the Main Library is hosting upcoming Oak Park Creates events, discussions, performances, and screenings aimed at connecting local creators with their audiences and with each other. Through these gatherings, the library hopes to inspire those who aspire to create.
"We hope that this collection continues to grow, and that it encourages current or potential creators to pursue their craft and engage with us, other creators, and our community," Pasteur said.
