The theme for the 2017 Oak Park International Film Festival is "Resist." This cinematic subject allows for intense investigation of the ways that individuals, collectives, and institutions foment change. From the spoken word to scientific intervention, we consider the reasoning and actions that critique and disrupt systems of hierarchy and oppression in film. Through this visual inquiry, we seek to provoke debate, confront convention and promote actions of social justice and civic engagement in the Festival's unique form of "civic cinema."

The Festival is accepting entries. There must be a local connection (cast, crew, subject, location, etc. to Chicago's western suburbs). Please submit a DVD, film description, contact information, and a two-sentence bio to: Oak Park International Film Festival, PO Box 1294, Oak Park, IL 60304 by Thursday, August 3. Music videos, documentaries, shorts, cartoons, and features are welcomed. Youth, women, minorities and others are encouraged to submit entries.

The one-day festival will be held Saturday, September 16 at the Oak Park Public Library, 838 Lake Street, 1 p.m.-5 p.m. It's free and open to the public. This year, the Festival will not fall on Jewish, Muslim or Christian holidays.

Wouldn't a hammer and sickle be a more appropriate visual for this film festival?
