On April 28, Oak Park and River Forest High School senior Nate Gallagher led a team of Scouts from Troop 2 in Oak Park, along with a group of his friends, in the construction of a privacy fence for Sojourner House — a property at 324 N. Austin Ave. in Oak Park.

The house — the result of a collaboration between the nonprofit Housing Forward and the Oak Park Housing Authority — is meant for people who need immediate shelter.

The fence took two days to build and was Gallagher’s Eagle Scout project, participants said. Gallagher raised $890 of his $1,000 goal through a GoFundMe campaign.

There were more Eagle Scouts who worked on the project, but who aren’t pictured, participants said.
