There is no joy in the Bulls Nation this morning after the Miami Heat closed last night’s game with an 18-3 run to beat the Bulls 83-80 thereby ending the Bulls season.

I really liked this Bulls team. They reminded me of a high school team in the way they played defense, shared the ball and listened to their coach. They even had a white guy who came in to shoot 3 pointers just like my boys did for OPRF back in the day. The Bulls MVP Derrick Rose was unusually humble and quiet for a superstar.

So I was disappointed that the Bulls season ended last night. But even worse they lost to the Miami Heat, the poster team for preening egoism. LeBron James and “The Decision” announcing he “was taking my talents to South Beach” was as over the top as almost anything even Oprah ever did. Losing to the Heat is much worse than losing to the Packers or the Cardinals.

I find my self seeking consolation in the obvious: none of the players know who I am or could care about my boring life in any way. For the right price they’ll wear a different color jersey. And it was fun while it lasted. I’ll remember watching the games with my sons screaming profanities and making fun of the Heat. Good times. And there’s always next season.
