Historic Failure Of Oak Park Postal Service Continues

By John Hubbuch

This is getting ridiculous. Some facts. The 900 block of South Euclid received no mail delivery on Saturday January 4, Monday January 6, Tuesday January 7, Wednesday January 8 and Thursday January 9. A trickle of mail was received on Friday January 10 and Saturday January11. But sad to say no mail was received yesterday despite snow free sidewalks and a sunny 46 degree day.

In addition I have not received Netflix DVDs mailed January 4 and 5, Blue Cross Blue Shield mailings and lots of other mail. Just where all this week old mail is is anybody's guess. I have tried to call the post office but they are not receiving calls. Two trips to the post office have resulted in a rummaging in the back and production of a pizza coupon or two, and the cryptic "short staff" response.

Some have expressed the notion of "what's the big deal?". Most of them have mail sevice. Some have pointed out the terrible cold and snow, but that was a long time ago. Even New Orleans eventually returned to normal. The Wednesday Journal reported that the post office said mail service would be back to normal on Thursday. Not true unless there is a new normal. I understand there is a move to eliminate Saturday delivery, but what about the rest of the week?

My Chicago  Tribune  was delivered every day. Glen Ellyn's mail was delivered. I have lived here since 1976. Prior to this 6 day and counting interruption , I only remember one or two days total when there was no mail delivery. By any comparative metric, the south Oak park post office is a failure.

Forget about the postman ringing twice. Once would be great. Finally, just where is  all that undelivered mail? I'd be happy to rummage around for it, if someone over there would just  tell me where to look.

Well, I got one out of three packages that have been sitting in Oak Park since 1-6-14. Not sure why the other two didn't get delivered, but it looks like stuff is moving a little now?

It's 7pm and no mail for the 1000 block of south Highland. Who else has not received mail?

I've had a couple of packages marked "Out for delivery" since Monday of LAST WEEK. Don't packages get delivered via mail truck? Our area was shoveled and clear, and the package delivery person would have been in a heated vehicle, but still no packages, and that's 6-mail-days and counting...

Just think no more crap in your box

The north post office isn't much better. Rude employees, never enough of them. No postmaster ever on sight. The sooner you move to electronic bill and service, yes netfix too, we can finally put these guys out of business.

Our experience on 1000 block of Clarence is almost exactly that of John Hubbuch. We visited the south office 4:15 yesterday, Monday, 1/13 and were able to pick up three pieces of pre-sorted mail and a terse message that the rest went out with the carrier earlier. No carrier by 10:30 last night.
