Burglary

An orange Iron Horse bicycle was removed from a garage in the rear of the 700 block of Lyman Avenue between the morning and evening of Aug. 20. Estimated loss is $350.

Someone removed a red Toro snowblower from inside a garage in the 1000 block of Lyman Avenue between the morning and afternoon of Aug. 21. Estimated loss is $900.

A 46-inch Sharp TV, a black and silver Playstation 3 game console and a black Sharp entertainment system were removed from a residence in the 1100 block of Harrison Street between the morning and evening of Aug. 20. Estimated loss is $1,009.

An unknown person broke the window of a vehicle in the 1100 block of Thomas Street, overnight Aug. 22, and removed a white leather purse containing a wallet, credit cards, identification and $150. Estimated loss is $300.

A witness saw a man entering a garage in the 800 block of North Taylor Avenue, the evening of Aug. 24. Once inside, a silver Razor scooter, a Rubi Tile cutting machine in an orange case, a Porter-Cable saw and a Craftsmen cordless screw gun were removed and placed in a black Cadillac, which fled in an unknown direction. Estimated loss is $780.

Someone entered a residence in the 1400 block of North Harlem Avenue, overnight Aug. 25-26, and removed a 43-inch Samsung plasma TV. Estimated loss is $1,000.

A faculty member at Dominican University told police someone removed a Dell monitor and keyboard from her locked office between the night of Aug. 6 and the afternoon of Aug. 7. Estimated loss is $300.

A resident of the 700 block of William Street reported that someone removed an Apple MacBook, a printer cord and a power cord from her home between the afternoons of Aug. 16 and Aug. 21. A neighbor told the owner that he re-secured a door that he found open, Aug. 18.

River Forest police arrested five teenagers, who, they believe, were responsible for nine burglaries and a bicycle theft beginning the night of Aug. 25. Most occurred on the 500 and 600 blocks between Keystone Avenue and Bonnie Brae. All were turned over to their parents.

Theft

An unknown person removed a purple women's bicycle by breaking the lock securing it in a yard in the 800 block of North Harvey Avenue, overnight Aug. 20. Estimated loss is $280.

A Chicago man took out $86 from his pocket in the 1100 block of South Boulevard, the night of Aug. 20, to make change, and another man reached toward him and snatched the money from his hand before fleeing.

Someone used a wrench to remove a spare tire secured to the rear of a 2012 Toyota Rav4 in the 1100 block of South Humphrey Avenue, the evening of Aug. 21. Estimated loss is $250.

A man in the first block of Division Street, the evening of Aug. 23, was asked by another man if he could use the man's Apple iPhone. When the victim handed him the phone, the offender fled northbound on Humphrey Avenue. Estimated loss is $600.

Two men removed about $100 from the counter top of Dunkin Donuts in the 200 block of Madison Street, the evening of Aug. 23.

A locked beige Triathlon hybrid bicycle was removed from the bike rack in the 100 block of South Boulevard between the morning and evening of Aug. 23. Estimated loss is $105.

An unknown person removed the catalytic converter with a saw from a 2003 Jeep SUV in the 400 block of North Humphrey Avenue between the mornings of Aug. 23 and Aug. 24. Estimated loss is $1,500.

Criminal damage to property

The front driver's side door of a 2004 BMW was scratched by unknown means, overnight Aug. 20, in the 600 block of Ontario Street. Estimated damage is $1,000. During the same time on the same block, paint was also scratched on the front and rear passenger doors of a 2000 Nissan. Estimated damage is $1,000.

Paint was scratched on top of the lid of a trunk on a 2004 Honda while it was parked in a driveway in the 300 block of North East Avenue between the evenings of Aug. 20 and Aug. 21. Estimated damage is $1,000.

An unknown person scratched the hood and driver's side front and rear doors of a silver Honda in the 100 block of North Grove Street, overnight Aug. 19. Estimated damage is $1,500.

Robbery

An unknown man grabbed a purse from the shoulder of a woman in the 300 block of South Humphrey Avenue, the night of Aug. 22. A struggle ensued, and the offender displayed a knife and demanded the purse. The woman complied and the offender fled. Estimated loss is $710.

Memorial plaque taken

A Park District of Oak Park supervisor noticed, Aug. 20, that a memorial plaque dedicated to local men who died during World War I was missing from the Stevenson Center.

Park district spokeswoman Diane Stanke said park district staff are looking for anyone with information on the disappearance of the bronze plaque. It had been on a boulder in front of the center in the first block of Lake Street. A statement from the park district said it's one of five in the village's parks that serve as memorials to "Gold Star Men of the World War."

Bike burglaries arrest

River Forest police detectives and members of the West Suburban Drug and Gang Enforcement task force arrested a 29-year-old Streamwood man they believe was involved in at least nine thefts and burglaries since June.

Officers were conducting a surveillance mission near Dominican University, the afternoon of Aug. 22, when they observed Eric Ingram and a 30-year-old woman putting a bicycle into a car at Thomas Street and Keystone Avenue. During questioning, officers also found 1.4 grams of heroin in Ingram's possession. He was charged with multiple counts of felony theft and felony possession of a controlled substance.

His accomplice was not charged locally and was turned over to the Winnebago County Sheriff on a no-bond warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

These items, obtained from the Oak Park and River Forest police departments, came from reports filed Aug. 21-27 and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated.
