It had been on a boulder in front of the center in the first block of Lake Street. A statement from the park district said it's one of five in the village's parks that serve as memorials to "Gold Star Men of the World War."
Anyone with information is asked to call the park district at 708-725-2022.

Officers were conducting a surveillance mission near Dominican University, the afternoon of Aug. 22, when they observed Eric Ingram and a 30-year-old woman putting a bicycle into a car at Thomas Street and Keystone Avenue. These items, obtained from the Oak Park and River Forest police departments, came from reports filed Aug. 21-27 and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated.
