Nancy Chumbley

Nancy Chumbley (nee Ponsonby), 77, died on Oct. 22, 2017. Born in Oak Park on Dec. 1, 1939, she attended Beye Elementary School and Oak Park and River Forest High School. After earning her M.A. degree, she became a reading specialist, and later a successful executive at a large educational publishing company. She lived in many cities around the country during her career but came back to Oak Park when she retired 12 years ago to be near her family. Her warmth, generous spirit, and beautiful smile will be missed. 

Nancy Chumbley was the sister of Eileen (the late Joseph) Wells and Jane (Jeff) Williams; the aunt of John (Marianne) Garrigan, Kathleen (Richard) Klaus, Susan (Bruce) Bulmash, Thomas (Marian) Garrigan, James Garrigan, Michael Williams, Mark Williams and Mary Williams; and the great-aunt and great-great-aunt of many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her sister, Marie (the late Thomas) Garrigan; and her great-niece, Kathleen Garrigan. 

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Nov. 4. A private internment is pending. The family appreciates donations made in her memory to Opportunity Knocks, 8020 Madison St., River Forest 60305 and at www.opportunityknocksnow.org.
