Trick-or-treat hours for Oak Park and River Forest will be 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31. Oak Park encourages parents to accompany young children and inspect all treats before eating any of them.

You can also get double duty out of that costume this year by attending the Avenue Business Association’s annual Halloween Parade on Saturday, Oct. 30.

Lineup begins at 9:45 a.m. at the corner of Oak Park Avenue and Pleasant Street. The parade begins at 10 a.m., led by Oak Park Village President David Pope and members of the Oak Park Police and Fire departments.

The Village of Oak Park also offers these tips to help keep Halloween safe

  • Use makeup instead of masks.
  • Choose flame-retardant costumes.
  • Wear light-colored clothing at night or add reflective tape to dark-colored costumes.
  • Give and accept only wrapped and packaged candy.
  • Go out in daylight and carry a flashlight in case of delay.
  • Stay within your neighborhood and visit only homes you know.
