The Farmers' Market Opens Tomorrow!

An appropriately balmy day is forecast for the opening of the Oak Park Farmers Market on Saturday, May 19. There will be a smattering of early produce, along with flowers, preserves, meat, bluegrass music and …oh yes, I almost forgot … donuts.

Black College Night at OPRF

On Wednesday, May 30, from 7-8:30 p.m., Oak Park River Forest High School's Parent Connection will host its first Black College Night, which will highlight the opportunities available for our students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

'Windows with a View' Event at What's Blooming on Harrison Street Art Festival, May 25-26

Local artists have been working on re-creating 20 vintage windows from RK Management buildings' for a display at 229 Harrison during the What's Blooming Festival. The artists received minimal direction about how to approach the project — just to create a work of art using a vintage window recycled from an RK Management building. "Apply your creative and artistic vision to an individual window."

MacDowell Artists Association awards scholarships to two OPRF seniors

MacDowell Artists Association held its annual scholarship auditions for local high school seniors who plan to continue their study of music in college. The auditions were held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Oak Park on Saturday, May 5.

This year there were two winners, both from Oak Park: Marina Vulinovic, piano and Sarah Coffman, soprano.

Tabitha Watson, OPRF grad, to receive Boston University's The Scarlett Key Award

Tabitha Watson, will graduate from Boston University on May 20th, 2012. She is a 2008 honors graduate of Oak Park River Forest High School where she played violin in the orchestra, and participated in the Spoken Word Poetry Program. Tabitha will graduate with dual degrees in Political Science and Journalism, with a minor in Spanish.

Aww, library gerbils!
